Vodovod i kanalizacija

The citizens of Novi Sad are supplied with drinking water from groundwater namely „War Island“, „Petrovaradinska ada“ and „Strand“. The raw water coming from the spring is processed in three phases, (aeration, filtration, and disinfection). It is supplied to more than 135,000 households in Novi Sad, about 1,500 liters of water every second, consume between 100 and 105 million liters of water a day. The hardness of Novi Sad water is about 15 dH (German degree of hardness) and it is characterized as medium hard.

There are four public utility company, namely, JKP „Vodovod i kanalizacija“ (PUC “Waterworks and Sewerage”), JKP „Čistoća“ (PUC “City Sanitation”), JKP „Gradsko zelenilo“ (PUC “City Parks”) and JKP „Novosadska toplana“ (PUC “Novi Sad District Heating”).

In 2009, 6,573 microbiological and physical and chemical inspections were conducted on drinking water samples of water factory and water supply network of the Public Utility Company ’’Waterworks and Sewerage Novi Sad’’ in all urban and other settlements, and it was found that 89.35% analyzed samples satisfy health correctness standards.

The public utility company „Vodovod i kanalizacija“ was founded by the Assembly of the City of Novi Sad. It’s main objective is production and distribution of drinking water, as well as wastewater disposal. It includes the city of Novi Sad and the suburbs of Sremska Kamenica, Sremske Karlovce, Petrovaradin, Popovica, Paragovo, Ledince (old and new), Čardak, Bukovac, Čenej, Kisač, Kać, Kovilj, Rumenko, Budisava, Stepanovićevo, Futog and Veternik.
