Museum of Anthropology and History of Ocotlán
The Museum of Anthropology and History of Ocotlán, operated for the first time in 1975 during the president Dr. Raúl Topete Gómez. On 18 December 2008, the museum was remodeled with public resources provided by Conaculta and the government of the state of Jalisco. The first archaeological pieces were donated by Werner Gygax and the archaeologist Otto Shondube classified them, who currently works in the new building.
The collections that the museum exhibits are the history of the municipality represented by agricultural tools, scale boats that navigated Lake Chapala and photographs of the old Ocotlán; fossil remains of prehistoric animals and plants; religious and war articles from the War of Independence. It has an important collection of zoomorphic and anthropomorphic pieces of pre-Hispanic ceramics and photographs, as well as abundant petroglyphs on the hills of the north shore of the lake.
