Novi Sad is the second largest city of Serbia, and it is located on the banks of the Danube River. Novi Sad is a young city, established 300 years ago, namely in 1694, although first archaeological findings revealed back to 3000 years BC.
In 1849, Novi Sad was heavily destroyed by bombardment – only 808 building were left out of 2,812. During the Austro-Hungarian Regencape, the city grew into an important economic, cultural and political center for all Serbs and that is why poets called it the Serbian Athens.
